Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt until well combined.
  2. Using a pastry cutter, cut in 1/2 cup of chilled, unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in 3/4 cup of cold buttermilk, 1 cup of peeled and diced apples, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat 8 ounces of softened cream cheese and 1/4 cup of sugar together with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add in 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick, and cut it into squares.
