Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by patting the boneless chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Coat the chicken with cornstarch, kosher salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat about 2 tablespoons of neutral oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken thighs and fry for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. In the same pan, reduce heat to medium and add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add soy sauce, dark soy sauce, honey, five-spice powder, and grated garlic. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Return the fried chicken to the pan with the sauce and coat thoroughly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. Transfer the chicken onto a serving platter, slice, and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions. Serve over steamed rice with sautéed vegetables.
