Step-by-Step Instructions for Char Siu Chicken
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and warm five-spice powder until well combined.
  2. Place the chicken thighs into the bowl and coat them generously with the marinade. Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes or refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Prepare your baking dish by lightly greasing it to prevent sticking.
  4. Transfer the marinated chicken thighs into the greased baking dish and pour any remaining marinade over them. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  5. Switch your oven settings to broil and grill or broil the chicken for about 2 minutes on each side, watching closely to prevent burning.
  6. Remove the chicken from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes, then sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the top.
