Ingredients

For the Steak
  • 1 pound Steak (ribeye, flank, or filet mignon) Choose your favorite cut for maximum flavor; slice against the grain for tenderness.
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce Adds umami depth; swap with tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch Optional; dusting the steak before cooking gives a nice crispy crust.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Honey or Brown Sugar Balances the heat with sweetness; can be substituted with maple syrup or agave.
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha Imparts delicious heat; reduce or omit for a milder flavor profile.
  • 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes Imparts delicious heat; reduce or omit for a milder flavor profile.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Fresh garlic brings essential fragrance; use minced for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar Adds acidity to enhance flavors; feel free to swap with another vinegar type.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil Provides a nutty flavor boost; omit if you don’t have any on hand.

  • 8 ounces Pasta (spaghetti or your choice) Cook al dente to hold its shape.
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil Ideal for searing the steak; can substitute with canola oil.
For Garnishing

Equipment

  • large pot
  • Skillet
  • mixing bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Cook Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add spaghetti and cook for 8-10 minutes until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of starchy pasta water before draining. Toss pasta with a tablespoon of butter to enhance richness.
  2. Prepare Steak: Pat steak cubes dry. In a bowl, combine cubes with salt, pepper, soy sauce, and optional cornstarch. Marinate for about 10 minutes.
  3. Sear Steak: Heat a skillet over high heat and add olive oil. Once hot, add marinated steak, searing for 2-3 minutes on each side until caramelized. Remove from skillet.
  4. Make Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant, then add soy sauce, honey, sriracha, rice vinegar, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and reserved water. Simmer until sauce thickens.
  5. Combine: Add cooked spaghetti back into the skillet, tossing to coat in sauce. If too thick, add reserved pasta water. Return seared steak to skillet and stir together for about one minute.
  6. Serve: Plate the pasta, garnishing with toasted sesame seeds and fresh herbs. Enjoy warm!
