- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat for about 5–7 minutes. Add the diced onion halfway through.
- Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream. Mix well and heat through for about 3–5 minutes.
- Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish and spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef mixture.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until tater tots are golden brown.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and return to the oven for 5 minutes.
- Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
