For the Patties
  • 1 lb Ground Beef 80/20 fat content
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce Soy sauce is a substitute
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard Yellow mustard works as well
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs Gluten-free options may be used
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder Fresh onion is an alternative
  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil For frying
For the Gravy
  • 1 medium Onion Red or yellow onions can be used
  • 8 oz Mushrooms Button or cremini mushrooms recommended
  • 2 tbsp Butter Margarine can substitute
  • 2 tbsp Flour Gluten-free flour can be used
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Vegetable broth is a substitute
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Omit if using fresh garlic

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands and form into 4 patties.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties and sear for 5-6 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and keep warm.
  3. In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 7-9 minutes until softened. Remove and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium-low and add butter. Once melted, whisk in flour to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes, then gradually add beef broth, stirring continuously.
  5. Return patties and sautéed onion-mushroom mixture to the skillet. Simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes until the patties are cooked through.
  6. Serve the patties hot with mushroom gravy ladled over them.
